With barely two weeks to the general elections, the Western Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed its readiness to win majority of popular votes and seats in the region to help guarantee an NPP victory in December 7, 2016 general elections.

The party is also making frantic efforts to water down the dominance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Sefwi area and the northern parts of the region come December 7.

The NPP met its Waterloo in the 2012 general elections in the Western Region after it won only eight out of the 26 constituencies to the utter shock of supporters of the elephant party.

The NPP won the Sekondi, Effia, Kwesimintsim, Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Takoradi, Essikado-Ketan and Mpohor seats.

The NDC also captured the Aowin, Amenfi West, Amenfi Central, Amenfi East, Bia East, Bia West, Ellembelle, Evalue-Gwira, Ahanta West, Sefwi Wiawso, Prestea – Huni Valley, Shama, Suaman, Akontombra, Bodi, Jomoro and Juaboso constituencies.

However, in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, Okatekyie Amankwaa Afrifa, the Regional Communications Director insisted that the NPP was capable of turning the political tables around in the Western Region.

“The NDC might be boasting of its dominance in Western north but the NPP is poised to pull a surprise that is likely to turn its fortunes in the region for the first time for good”.

He indicated that the NPP would fulfill its promise of creating the ‘Western-North’ Region during its tenure of office.

“The creation of the “Western-North” region is long overdue, considering the fact that a significant proportion of Ghana’s natural resources, such as gold and cocoa, as well as foodstuff” can be found in that part of the country and the people there are happy with the decision”, he added.

He noted that the creation of the region was also to ensure a more equitable development of the region, as well as address the unwieldy size of the Western Region.

He continued, “The nation is in tatters, but the next NPP government led by President Nana Akufo-Addo would turn the fortunes of the nation around and put the country back on track”.

According to Amankwaa Afrifa, the NPP’s flagbearer had demonstrated beyond any measure that he is capable of managing this country.

“Nana Addo has provided concrete plans required to deal with our country’s challenges.   What is significant now is for Ghanaians to trust him with their mandate on December 7,” he mentioned.

He indicated that was the message the NPP supporters and sympathizers must send to all – that the NPP was coming to put Ghana back onto the path of progress and prosperity.

He pointed out that despite government’s mantra of massive road projects in the Western Region, majority of the people and chiefs of the area were unhappy with the nature of their roads.

“In the lead up to the 2008 general election, then Vice Presidential Candidate and current President John Dramani Mahama slammed the NPP for showcasing its road projects in the country as one of its major achievements”.

Mr Afrifa stated “Mahama noted that infrastructural development was a basic responsibility of every government, but eight years after he made that comment, President Mahama has been trumpeting road infrastructure as one of his main achievements”.

“We, in the NPP, have the men and women, with the knowledge and skill, to give this country a first class government which will lift the masses from abject poverty and deliver jobs and prosperity for all.”
